Clothes Plasters – my new favourite find

As part of my quest to make our clothing choices more ethical, I’ve been thinking about how I could make the kids’ clothes last longer. Toddler boy had managed to put small holes in the knees of a couple of pairs of jeans, but it seemed a shame to throw them away when they otherwise had a lot of life left in them. I looked around for denim patches, but they were awfully boring. Then I remembered a post I’d seen a while ago on Mum in the Madhouse about colourful patches for kids’ clothes. I searched around and found it was Jenny Maizels’ Clothes Plasters. I ordered a set at around 2.00 pm and they arrived the next morning, wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a ribbon, which I thought was such excellent service.

There are ten patches in a tin and they’re absolutely gorgeous! I could hardly wait to try them on the trousers. Here’s the hole in one leg

We have rocket and robot on one pair of holey jeans and tractor and pirate on another. They’ve gone from being scruffy, playing about jeans to his special favourites. Both pairs have been through the wash a couple of times now and the patches are sticking firmly.

I’m trying to save the rest for new holes that might develop, but I’m so tempted to put a couple on plain t-shirts, or maybe on a sun hat. I’ve even been dreaming of setting up in business, ironing then on to sleepsuits and little baby vests! They’re so cute, great quality and make everyday clothes into something special. There are four different sets available, I need a little girls’ birthday to come round soon so that I’ve an excuse to buy the girly one!
